Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
